My name is Laurie Barton. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from San Diego State University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Marymount University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia.
I have experience helping people manage anxiety, depression as well as symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In addition, I have experience with issues pertaining to adoption, cancer, infertility, family issues, grief and loss, veteran and military concerns as well as learning disabilities and ADHD. As a responsible and ethical counselor, I only practice within the scope of my experience and training. If I believe that you could benefit from a treatment I do not provide, I will assist you in finding someone who can help you.
I believe strongly in the relationship between the counselor and the client. It is my intent to create a nurturing environment in which therapeutic growth may be accomplished. Largely based on Solution Focused Therapy, my efforts on helping clients gain self awareness and assisting them in making desired change.
As a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), I accept and practice in conformity with this organization’s codified ethical standards, as well as the code of ethics put forth by the Virginia State Licensing Board.
